Pilates is a series of exercises that consists of low impact, flexibility and muscular strength and endurance movements. Pilates emphasises better postural alignment with the focus on core strength and muscle balance. Pilates is named from its creator, Joseph Pilates, who developed the constantly evolving system almost a century ago!
Joseph presented his method as the art of controlled movements, which should look and feel like a workout (not a therapy). If practiced regularly, Pilates improves flexibility, builds strength and develops control and endurance in the entire body. It puts emphasis on alignment, breathing, developing a strong core, and improving coordination and balance.
